Sara Lucas
Founder · Women in (E)Motion · Flex Fit Females
I'm Sara — a long-standing member of FlexAbility Fitness and part of Dan's training family. After leaving school, I unexpectedly joined the army as an HR Admin in December 1991. I served for 24 years, travelling to the UK, Northern Ireland, Germany, the Falklands, Kenya, Iraq, and Afghanistan. I retired in April 2016 having reached the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 — a milestone I'm immensely proud of.
After leaving the forces I worked in HMRC and then spent eight years in the Prison Service as an Officer and Supervising Officer. Life after the military threw challenges I never expected — and an incident a while back triggered something deep, leaving me diagnosed with PTSD. Getting the right support changed everything, including how I understand mental health.
I've always been active — I took up running and now compete in trail runs, with the Lake District being my favourite spot. I also enjoy paddle boarding, sea dipping, and getting out on the hills with my dog. Fitness, especially the gym, has been instrumental in supporting my own mental health journey.
After speaking with other women here at FlexAbility, I realised many of us share similar experiences — feeling isolated, not knowing who to turn to. So I reached out to Dan, and together we created Women in (E)Motion. A space where no woman should ever feel alone.
